Have you ever just had one of those days that made you feel like you could conquer the world? Well this past Sunday was one of those days for me. I am still flying high and giving thanks for the way God has blessed His church in Cumby. The decisions for salvation that we have had over the past two weeks make my heart leap for joy. I could tell by the look on the faces in our congregation Sunday that I am not alone in that emotion. We are scheduled to Baptize five new believers on Sunday! What a blessing that will be for all of us.
As I continue to think about God's plan, I am anxiously waiting to see what He does next in Cumby. I know two things about that: 1) we are to wait upon Him; and 2) we are to be actively working while we wait! Isn't that an interesting paradox? My favorite verse in the Bible is:
"BUT THEY THAT WAIT UPON THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH; THEY SHALL MOUNT UP WITH WINGS AS EAGLES; THEY SHALL RUN, AND NOT BE WEARY; AND THEY SHALL WALK, AND NOT FAINT"
ISAIAH 40:31
I first claimed this verse as a high school distance runner. Since that time, I have come to understand that it means we gain Spiritual strength when we "Wait upon the Lord". What is most significant to me is that we are given energy to work while we wait. Waiting to see what God will do does NOT mean sitting idly by expecting Him to make the first move. What it does mean is that we pray, plan, work and execute and watch for what God will do as a response to our worship and hard work. In the mean time, He keeps us from growing weary from our work as long as we wait expectantly on Him. The best part is that He will often act when we least expect it and in ways that are beyond our wildest dreams. When that happens, we soar with the eagles.
How are you doing this week as you wait upon the Lord? Keep working hard and He promises to renew your strength!
He also promises that we will "Mount Up With Wings As Eagles"! I hope you will give it a try this week......the view from up here is amazing!!
I will see you in your place at First Baptist Church this Sunday! You are invited!
Your pastor,
John Ginn
